U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) Web Site Privacy Policy
The USSRC's goal is to inform, excite, inspire and involve children and adults in learning science,
aviation, and space exploration. While we develop and encourage interactivity in learning, we strive
to ensure online safety and privacy of our users. The USSRC is committed to providing and
maintaining a safe and secure environment on the Internet for all of our visitors, complying fully with
the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA). Notice of our information
practices are explained below as required by the Federal Trade Commission's Children's Online
Privacy Protection Regulations.

Information Collected
As with all internet web sites, the USSRC collects some information indirectly from all users visiting
our web site. The information that is collected is explained below:
System Logging
Our web server and e-mail systems keep log files about transactions.

We do analyze our web logs to calculate statistics on which pages are visited and how long visitors
stay on our site.
We do not track individuals with this information. We are required to retain this information for the
security of our website and online service.
E-mail addresses of messages sent from our system are logged as well. These logs are not viewed
unless necessary for security purposes.
Interet Addresses
The USSRC gathers Internet Protocol Address (IP Addresses) and pages viewed as a part of the
logging system withing the web server.
When calculating statistics on visitors and pages viewed, IP Addresses are used in broad
calculations.
IP Addresses are never used to personally identify users unless a security breach warrants an
investigation.

The USSRC may use session cookies for visitors to our site. A session cookie is a temporary file
stored in the browser that is deleted when it either expires or the browser is closed.
No privacy or personal information is stored in a cookie from this site.
We may store a temporary number which helps us understand traffic patterns or help us control
access to restricted pages.
Some features of USSRC site may not funciton properly without session cookies being enabled.
Email Marketing Information Collected and How it is Used.
The USSRC collects and maintains an opt-in submission e-mail subscription list which we use to
send e-mail messages about new and interesting space and aviation science.
If your child subscribes to the list, you will be notified and given the opportunity to unsubscribe them.
Unless otherwise indicated, information is collected via a web page form.
The first name is collected for the purpose of personally addressing e-mail messages to the child.
The e-mail address is collected to allow us to send messages about the USSRC or the USSRC's
web site updates.
The postal zip code is collected to help us evaluate the effectiveness of marketing campaigns, and is
never correlated to a child for reasons other than providing the USSRC with demographic data.
The date of birth is collected with the intent of eventually sending the child a birthday greeting; also
to let us know that the child is in the correct age group for our site. The birthdate is also required so
that we may comply with the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. A child's
age is not associated with a name in this analysis.
The format of the message is collected indirectly through the first e-mail message. The format can
either be plain text, or like a web page, in color.
The parent's e-mail address is collected to send notice to the parent that his or her child has
subscribed to our mailing list.
We do not disclose any of this information to third parties.
